Great maloutim 2018-08-20 2:31

Hi Stephen,
I was challenged by this sculpture and wondered if it was by Henry Moore about whom there is an exhibition currently, in my home town of Landerneau.
Well, after a little research, I found your "Mother and child" was by Jean-Louis Toutain from Toulouse. Quite rightly, the city boasts several sculptures of him.
I think this "Mother playing with her child" is beautiful. I love the elegant movement, and you captured it well in the middle of the playground. Just a pity there weren't any children playing at that moment !
If you don't mind, I am sending you a picture of Henry Moore's "Reclining Mother and child", one of his many "Reclining figures".
I think there is a similarity, and I happened to read that Toutain (1948-2008) did admire Henry Moore (1898-1986).
I hope it will be of interest.
Kind regards.
Marie-Louise.

Default To maloutim: Moore/Toutain

Thank you for the information about the statue and its sculptor and for the picture. There does indeed seem to be a great similarity between Toutain's work and that of Moore. Moore's work can be seen throughout the world, he was obviously very prolific. I had not come across Toutain before I saw this piece in Toulouse and then I didn't realise it was him.

Kind regards
Stephen.
