Great tyro 2019-11-04 1:13

Hello Gert,

Petra is a place about which I have read a lot and should very much like to visit - and your three splendid photographs, accompanied by a comprehensive and fascinating note, intrigue me further. Actually, I believe I saw these three photographs yesterday morning and was determined to write a critique: but I had to go out to buy some provisions - and when I came home your pictures had unfortunately vanished from the website. :(

Anyway, three wonderful photographs, each of very good quality considering their age and the fact that they are scans of colour slides. Your workshop "steep wall and donkey" is rather sad and, like you, I hope that poor creature hadn't been abandoned. Your other workshop "huge rock with graves" is, of course, one of the classical views we see of Petra when we read of this place - I'm sure I recall an almost identical view in a "National Geographic" magazine not so many years ago - and I never cease to be impressed thinking of the incredible hard work and skills which must have been employed in carving these tombs and burial places out of the rock faces.

But I think your choice of main photograph was a wise one and very much in keeping with your own personal style - an image which clearly shows the Siq but, more importantly, is animated by at least two groups of people travelling towards you in donkey carts and which immediately draw the viewer's attention.

Thank you for these photographs and a very fine note too.

Wonderful!

Kind Regards,

John.

Thank you John,
It was pointed out to me yesterday that the photo wasn't quite sharp. When I realized it was true I deleted it and hopefully I managed to improve it.
I have plenty more photos from Petra, so I will stay here for a few more uploads. I am sure you have seen almost identical views before. Some places in Petra are impossible to avoid.
I wish you a nice day,
Gert
