Great macondo 2007-05-14 8:09

Greetings, Paul. I was drawn to this because of my own efforts to capture some snow surfers in the French alps a couple of months ago. I've tried the seagoing type here in Melbourne but have so far been unhappy with the compositional aspects - the 'kite' part of it always seems to far away, too small, or something else. This one works well because you've placed yourself behind the surfer, you have good foreground interest, and the light is very unusual. I like the impact of the white water and that bright yello in contrast to the darkness of the sky and sea. Pretty good shot, if you ask me.

Default To macondo: Kite surfing

I totally agree with you. It is so hard to get good photos of this. The kite does tend to be a good distance away from the surfer. I managed to catch a few images last Fri, since the wind was strong, and the kites tended to be nearer the water.

I do like this image, because of all the parts of the image, but especially with the dark haunting sky and the bright kite.
