Great macjake 2019-04-16 14:17

Hi Jorge
hard to keep up with all your shots from China, i enjoy them, keep them coming. This sculpture's design is so similar to the Monuments of Discoveries one in Lisbon. I have never seen this before, so i have learnt something new on TE today. Thanks for showing this subject. Great to see a new piece of the city or new view. cheers
Craig

Default To macjake: realism socialist

craig

these sculptures in beijing are typical of realism socialist, they show workers and militaries as heroes of the people, almost like modern super heroes and put them in stupid heroic poses.
in the case of lisbon it was created during a dictatorship of right wing and the purpose was to glorify the historic personages of the portuguese past, including the prince, priests, navigators, etc.. in fact the gestual of these two works have many similarities.

take care

jorge
