Great nwoehnl 2005-10-12 14:37

Hi Simon. A nice take from Beijing, where the diagonal lines on the ground make a good device to point the view towards the pagoda-roofed building. The people are a welcome add with their vivid clothing and the pattern provided by the umbrellas that some of them are carrying. Nice one. I am contemplating a trip to Asia next year (never been there so far), but I haven't decided on the destination yet.

I can certainly recommend China, I've been to Beijing three times, and if you know where to look you can keep yourself occupied at least two weeks, just walking through the streets, eating the food, visiting the great wall, the different markets, etc. China is difficult though, but not impossible, if you don't know at least a little mandarin (I can recommend Pimsleur's course in mandarin, it's relatively cheap and you know enough to get started after only 10 half hour lessons or so).

That's my two sentence summary of what's it like to go to China :).

If you go to China I also strongly recommend going to the Wutaishan area, in Shanxi province, it's fairly close to Beijing (~9 hours train + ~5 hours bus) and just beautiful, there are a few pictures with a description of the place in my gallery. I regret not taking the oppurtunity to see more of China outside Beijing, I hope I will be able to go there again and see other parts.
