Great boa 2014-03-16 13:22

Hi Paul,
you must had an interesting journey when you was in this part of the world! Beautiful view and amazing light and colors in this scene.
Tblisi are more beautiful than Yerevan after what i have heard, but still worth a visit. Is it possible to travel by train between the two capitals?
Nice shot and an interesting note, tfs!

Best regards/

Default To boa: travel by train

Hello Boa,

Yes, it is possible to travel by train from Tbilisi to Yerevan and vice versa.
I don't remember the details. Perhaps it's possible only every other day.
There are also night trains.

We didn't take that train.
We preferred not to travel along the same route back and forth.
In Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, we took the minibus (= marshrutka) directly to Yerevan. If required, you can already stop in Gyumri, Armenia.
This route cannot be done by train.

Later we returned from Yerevan to Tbilisi and we chose to travel again during daytime (also by minibus).

I believe the trains are comfortable enough. Anyway, our traject from Tbilisi to Zugdidi surely was comfortable. But the trains drive slowly.

Tbilisi and Yerevan are two completely different metropolises.
There are many more points of interest in Tbilisi. Before the trip, I knew I would love Tbilisi but I felt a bit unsure about Yerevan.
Yet I also liked Yerevan. In summertime it has a true Mediterranean atmosphere. I remember a Spaniard told me the city had an 'Andalusian' atmosphere.

Armenia is a very small country. So it's possible to visit other places in the country while based in the capital.

If you need more information, do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards from Belgium,

Default Armenia

Hi again Paul,
thanks a lot for taking time and answer my questions

Yes, I have plans to visit this region, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia but it is difficult if not impossible to travel between Armenia-Azerbaijan. The best option as i see it is: Azerbaijan-Georgia-Armenia.
Marshrutkas are most likely the fastest way to travel Tblisi-Yerevan as you say.

I have not decided yet when to go but most likely next year when i have more time.
My plans for this year is Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in September. Do you have any plans for this year?

Thanks again/

Default Azerbaijan

Hi Boa,

You cannot cross the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Neither the border between Turkey and Armenia.
If you like to visit Azerbaijan you will have to keep Armenia till the end of the journey. Unless you would travel from Azerbaijan to Iran and from there to Armenia. Then Georgia will be at the end of your trip.

I don't know for you but for us it's quite difficult (and expensive) to obtain a visa for Azerbaijan.
If I remember well, they only issue transit visa.

Is it easy to obtain a visa for Uzbekistan ?

Best regards from Belgium,
