Great UlfE 2013-12-30 8:27

Hi Marie-Louise,

Beautiful and very colourful photo. Also excellent sharpness and detail. I studied your photo with great interest and it was not until I saw the WS that I understood that it is a monument outside the chruch and not inside. Although you say that the monument was monochrome in earlier centuries I had difficulties to figure out if the colours were the result of the illumination but after having taken a closer look I understood that the monument has been painted. You would not expect this for a monument that is 400 years old. TFS and Happy New Year!

Default To UlfE: Monochrome calvary illuminated during the Xmas season.

Thanks for your visit Ulf, and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
My explanation in the note is probably not very clear.
As it shows in WS1, the calvary is now monochrome, but was polychrome when it was first built.
I am not sure when the polychrome feature was abandoned, but certainly for all of the 20th century. I'll have to enquire about that.
This picture and the polychrome WS were taken during the illuminations which lasted only 3 nights for 3 hours each night !
We'll have to wait until next year until it happens again I suppose.
Best regards.
