Thank you Paul,
'Skydd' is obviously derived from German 'Schutz'. 'Sk' before a "soft" vowel (a e i y ä ö) is pronounced like German 'sch'. The 's' in the middle is inserted when two different words are connected. Like for instance 'skyddsängel' for 'guardian angel'. ;-)
