Silver Efex

Hi Philippe, good to hear from you.

Yes, Silver Efex is a plug-in, and I use it with PS Elements. I've never used LR so I don't know how it compares with that, but I think it's a great bit of...

To Manamo: Hi Marc

Yeah, I know what you mean about that guy in the middle...

No, I didn't use any noise reduction - Provia is a very fine grained film anyway, but maybe my cheapo scanner is responsible for the...

Re: To rigoletto: ISO 25600

ISO 25600 is 4 stops faster than 1600, so if you had to use 1/10th sec in your cave, you could have used 1/250th sec in the same light using ISO 25600.

The place I took the photo was sort of like...

To rigoletto: ISO 25600

ISO 25600 - the highest ISO setting on my camera. Even then I was using quite a low shutter speed, as you can see from the slight camera shake / movement in the photo.

Glad you liked it Deniz.

Re: olympus 9-18 mm lens

Oh dear, there seems to be some confusion in the replies here!

Just to clarify - Olympus doesn't make a full-frame DSLR.
The 4/3 crop factor is 2x, so the 9-18mm zoom will be equivalent in angle...

To Polonaise: Curiosity

No, just like when they brought the stones from Jerusalem all those centuries ago, the church is still the priority - in the village at the bottom of the hill the church was the only structure that...

To Dpbours: F80

I'm not sure I understand your confusion about the F80 Dennis! It's a great little camera, and when it finally died I replaced it with an even more plasticy and lightweight F75.
I use cameras like...

Yeah, I tried a bit of a copper toning effect.
Glad you liked the shot Philippe, and thanks for your comments.

OK, I'll bite.
Not trying to be a smart-arse George, just trying to be helpful. Amongst all the bland 'nice photo' comments that pass for critique on TE these days, I do try now and then to be...

To jhm: Not Belgian - Ethiopian!

Hi John,

Actually if you look closely you'll see that it's GREEN, yellow and red - the colours of the Ethiopian flag.
I'm glad you liked the shot, thanks for your comments.

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for your comments Claire, and I'm really glad you liked this one.
About the B&W, I've been using Nik Silver Efex software - still getting to grips with it but it's great for digital B&W....

To bantonbuju: 17-35mm

No Jerzy, you're thinking of the 17-55mm. The 17-35mm is an older lens and works great on film and FX digital cameras.

Ben

I think I must use the same method (trial and error) as you Benny!

Moving to Khartoum, eh? Sounds interesting.
When you're there you could make the trip to Ethiopia overland - the border near Gonder is the main crossing point I think. I met a couple who were...

I don't...

No, they weren't protesting - just listening to a preacher at Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park.

Sure Casper, that would be great. I'm going to be pretty busy in April, but give me a shout and hopefully I'll be able to make it.

To BennyV: Pubs

British pubs used to allow smoking inside - the no-smoking rule is quite a recent innovation (about 2 yrs ago).
There was fear that the new rule would affect the atmosphere in pubs. I don't think it...

To Dpbours: Massacre

It's an obscene term Dennis, but I think the 'kill-ratio' has a lot to do with it - 10:1. 13 Israelis killed v c1300 Palestinians, the vast majority of whom were innocent civilians - in the past...

Take a look at <a href="http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40/users-guide/index.htm"target="new window">this</a>. It's a guide to the D40, which is more or less the same as the D60 - 99% of it should...
