Spring, flowers and TOS
 

Hi all
This message concerns all the members of TrekEarth and especially the "new ones".
Spring is time for great pictures but each of us must remember that the TOS does not allow close shots of flowers and/or plants.
Rule 5 of TOS: http://www.trekearth.com/terms.php As the purpose of TrekEarth is to learn about the world through photography, shots of common objects (like closeups of any flowers or plants, water droplets, toothbrushes etc.) tend not teach us anything without a suitable note (not a Wikipedia copy or else), so unless there's a suitable note they will be deactivated at the discretion of site moderators. If you wish to post these types of image please consider using our sister site TrekLens: http://www.treklens.com/

A solution
If you wish to post a flower in TE, it's possible to post it in a WS of your main subject.
And for your Easter wishes nothing prevents you from writing a few lines in the general forum with a link to your WS.

The t.o.s. does NOT say "no flowers whatsoever". It says no closeups. I would hardly consider a standard lens view of 55mm, of over 100 tulips, in 3 different color layers, to be a "macro" or 'close up' shot. The t.o.s. also state that if a suitable note accompanies such an image, it will be permitted.

Still waiting on the courtesy of an email or reply, in regard to my deleted image. So far, I have had 20 likes in facebook for the deleted image, and 1 'hate' on TE. Maybe it's time I started looking for another website or start posting all of my future images on FB? And I no longer post on TL, because that site is poorly moderated and home to a few troublesome sociopaths who rarely post images but delight in stirring up trouble and scaring members away...

Really disappointed in the attitude of moderators here.

Moreover, you accuse Moderators of being sociopats, i.e. affected by mental illness. Such an offensive insult raises doubts if you understand the meaning of courtesy.

I couldn't find the right words to express my feeling in the way the moderators have been treated lately but I fully agree with you, Ulf, thank you...

A suitable note WAS attached. Since when has a standard lens of 55 mm been a macro / close up shot ? News to me. Stop playing semantics. No wonder so many TE members have left recently! You are driving them away with capricious & arbitrary decisions.

That's NOT what I said at all. I said that I no longer post on TL because it is poorly moderated and there are a couple of members there (Foxe's Hat for one) who drive other members away with constant barbs in the forums, & nasty comments on my posts and other members too, such as 'anyone who critiqued this image positively is a liar.' Do I have to post pm's in their entirety to a public forum to get through?

Guess I WILL be sending that complaint to the ombudsman. NO ONE IS LISTENING HERE. Worse still, they are deliberately distorting what I said to suit their own ends.

Why to the ombudsman, Chris?
Go directly to The European Court of Human Rights ;)

Everyone can see themselves what you say about Moderators.

The TOS says common objects. How hard could it be to understand that what is in brackets is just an example of common objects?

Your note that expresses surprise to find tulips in East Turkey where the winters are cold does teach us anything about the World. If you had cared the least to find out anything about tulips in this part of the world you would perhaps have realized that tulips are native to East Turkey and that East Turkey has the very best climate for tulips, i.e. cold winters matched with dry, hot summers.

Then Ulfe, please quote where I said a particular moderator is a sociopath. I did not even mention a moderator's name. You won't find any insult to a particular moderator because it doesn't exist. You are putting your own interpretation on the statement I made, which was directed at certain MEMBERS on TL. Please stop twisting what I said to suit your own agenda. And you are taking the 'common objects' part of the t.o.s. out of context. I can no longer see the entire note I had attached because the image was removed. Repeated requests to moderators to receive an email notification to start a review process have been ignored.

I researched the climate here in East Turkey before I arrived. Long winters and short summers. "the climate of this area the harshest in Turkey with the temperatures in long, heavily snowy, and bitterly cold winter regularly below -30°C at nights (and no warmer than -15°C during the day). Wet summers in Erzurum are around 30°C in the day time and is chilly at night time"

I will walk backwards from here to Amsterdam if you do see any mention of tulips. Nor is there any mention in Lonely Planet. I have been in Erzurum since mid February and up until very recently all I have seen is snow and ice. But you don't live here, so you wouldn't know. You also probably didn't know that 3 to 4 people are killed here every year by large blocks of ice falling into the street from the rooftops above. You wont find that in the guidebooks either.

If this similar image had of also been deleted, I would be none the wiser about the existence of tulips in Turkey, until I saw them with my own eyes just very recently.

all this information about Turkey and its tulips is 100% true for Moscow, too, and for many other Russian cities and towns: long winters and short summers.
Here in winter temperatures may be up to -40C and in summer - up to +40C (for the past days the temperature has been around +30C in Moscow), and this winter was extremely cold.
And every winter in Moscow (and many other cities and towns) many people are killed by ice cubes and/or icicles falling from roofs, too.

And there are many tulips growing here, too. They are very 'common' objects.
So what?..

Now 4 of our 6 mods team (the 2 other were not reachable at the moment) have found your photo, a "rather" close shot of common tulips on a roundabout, was too common and the note certainly not sufficient enough to make it acceptable.

This thread is becoming very unfriendly and I'm now taking the responsibility to close it.
