Fascinating site - I love the Guardian's website anyhoo...
Thing about this Salgado is: he oiperates on what I would call a BIBLICAL scale, know what I mean. The guy is the Cecil B DeMille of reportage. Grand scale, magnificent light piercing through menacing skies above the forlorn earth, men slaves like ants crawling above the ground. You half expect Charlton heston to burst across the frame holding the 10 Commandements, ya know?
And I LIKE the man, I think his stuff is great, but I couldn't help pocking a little gentle fun because there is so much (justified) REVERENCE for his work.
Hope you don't mind, Herve?

Not at all, Francis, every photographer deserves scrutiny and his work questionning. But not much reverence here on TE in any case, you are the first to come to comment on this week and a half old thread.

N there are great admirers of Salgado here: I know Luko is one and lately Sohrab too. I have been to a alrge scale exhibition of Salgado's "Workers" in Tokyo - out of this world!
