Les grattes-ciel de Montréal sont soumis à une législation qui défend quelle construction que ce soit de dépasser le niveau du sommet du Mont-Royal. L'idée était, au départ, que le seul bâtiment à dépasser ce sommet serait la fameuse Croix du Mont-Royal (qui sert de repère à beaucoup d'avions), en tant que symbole de la toute-puissance de la religion Catholique. Par la suite, cette législation est restée pour la simple raison que le résultat est une ville beaucoup plus équilibrée dans les proportions de ses édifices.

Skyscrapers in Montreal are submited to a strict legislation that prevents any building at all to be higher than the summit of Mount Royal. The original idea behind this was that the only building higher than the summit was to be the famous Mount Royal Cross (which serves as a landmark for many plane pilots), as a symbol of the allmightiness of the Catholic religion. Afterwards, this legislation was kept for the simple reason that it makes the cityscape more balanced, without the excesses in height seen in many other large cities. |
