The gesture of hope (24) maria
(2220) | Monument in memoriam of the victims of March 11th.
This is a pioneering work, not only in its design but also in the use of certain totally innovative bilding materials and systems as a true reference point of R+D+I. Borosilicate glass sections were used for its construction, the main features of which are their high degree of resistance to outside heat and temperature changes, in addition to combining a high degree of transparency to the sunlight and mechanical strength.
The monument also incorporates an Ethyl-tetra-fluoro-ethulene (ETFE) membrane on the interior of the glass shell, keeping the hall below ground level completely pressurized, This is a pioneering approach in building pneumatic architectural systems, seeking transparency, thus avoiding any structural member, and opting for air pressure ot lift, tighten and stabilize the interior membrane secured by a base section.
This monument is not only a unique architectural reference point due to its technical features, but is fundamentally an unequivocal symbol of solidarity, remembrance and heartfelt pain expressing the feelings of all our citizens regarding one of the most tragic events in the history of Madrid.
