Es una gran avenida lacustre, de 30 a 80 metros de ancha, en cuyo entorno se alinean iglesias y palacios en una sucesión sorprendente, llena de belleza. El carácter curvilíneo del recorrido acrecienta el misterio del trayecto.
Desde la zona de la estación al entorno de San Marcos hay un recorrido de cuatro kilómetros, tan encantador de día como misterioso y sugerente de noche.
Puentes como el de Rialto; Iglesias como las de los Descalzos o Santa María de la Salud, y –sobre todo- incontables palacios, dan un sabor inolvidable al conjunto.
Entre los edificios civiles hay desde época gótica, renacentista, barroca, etc. En su tiempo muchos estuvieron recubiertos de magníficas pinturas, hoy prácticamente desaparecidas... Todo un muestrario de belleza y poderío, propio de una burguesía rica y ostentosa.
Uno de los puentes del Gran Canal y por debajo de él se puede ver el Palacio Cavalli-Franchetti, originario del XV.

The Grand Chanel

One of the bridges of the Grand Canal and below it, you can see the palace-Cavalli Franchetti, a native of XV.
