As there was no one else at 5.30AM and no local woman would pose for me anyway, I had to pose myself. I set autotimer and had to quickly get over the slippery rocks to steady position. As this is 15 second exposure and there was a light breeze, my abaya didn’t keep steady for all time.
The abaya (Arabic عباءة, plural abayat عباءات) is an overgarment worn by women in parts of the Islamic world. It is the traditional form of hijab, or Islamic dress, for many countries of the Arabian peninsula. It is compulsory for all woman in Saudi Arabia, even for visitors like myself as Saudi Arabia requires women to cover in public. Covering is enforced by the religious police, the mutaween (also known as the 'mutawa') and you dont want to get in trouble with them, as they have more power than normal police. Traditional abayat are black, it covers the whole body except the face, feet, and hands. It can be worn with the niqab, a face veil covering all but the eyes. Some women choose to wear long black gloves, so their hands are covered as well.
