Another architectural gem of Trier, the oldest German city - founded 16 B.C. by the Romans on the bank of Moselle river.

My today photo shows the so called "Dreikönigshaus" (house of the three Magi). Its name is derived from a painting of the three Magi which decorated the facade in former times.

It is a residential house of early Gothic evolved from a Romanesque residential tower - built in the year 1230. In these times the house owners had to defend themselves and that's why the original house door was installed in the upper floor. It only was accessible by a ladder which normally was placed in the house. You can see the door down right in my photo (better in the workshop picture)

The colourful paint of the house is in accordance with the original paint of the Middle Ages.
