 Chateau de Maisons (90) JCG
(17982) | I am astonished that the photograph of this castle is not yet published on TE, it is made thing !!!
The distinguished architect François Mansard built the Château de Maisons between 1632 and 1646. It is the key element in a great composition centred on a perspective. It is considered a model of the French classical style of architecture. With its majestic façades, elegant proportions and the roofs sporting tall chimneys, Maisons is a perfect example of the sumptuous residence of a wealthy parliamentarian, René de Longueil, whom the young Louis XIV will visit in April 1651. The king will remember the sculptors and decorators who worked in Maisons and call them later as he built Versailles... The Vestibule and the Grand Stairway, the Mirror Room, the decorations of the fireplaces and the domed ceiling already embody the refinement of the Great Century and the taste for pomp. François Mansard also built the magnificent stables around 1660.
At the end of the 18th century, the estate was bought by the Count d’Artois, brother of Louis XVI, who had a passion for horses and introduced the fashion of horse racing. After the Revolution, field-marshal Lannes bought the château de Maisons and received a visit from Emperor Napoleon.
The banker Jacques Laffitte succeeded him. He parcelled out the extensive grounds, had the stables torn down and contributed to the development of the Commune in furthering the organisation of horse races. At the end of the 19th century, Maisons-sur-Seine became Maisons-Laffitte.
In 1905, the State bought the château in order to save it from destruction. (Cf : Centre des Monuments Nationaux)
In complementary photograph you will be able to see the frontage side garden.
A good evening or day with all.
On the councils of our friend Christian (chrisnet), I modified the prospects in WS, thank you with him. |
