 Warsaw University Library (62) emka
(10428) | Warsaw has many modern buildings, but for me the most beautiful and interesting is the Library of the Warsaw University. The architecture of the building is magnificent and unusual. Here on the photo and in WS1 is the main entrance. On the left on the curved wall. are big tables with the texts in different scripts - latin, cyrylica, sanscrit, arabic, hebrew, greek, also music and scientific (math, physics and chemistry) notation. Other walls are covered with creepers, as can be seen on the right. The roof over the main hall is made of glass, so it is a plenty of light inside and you can see through the roof the students learning . It is not true that they drink beer there and look at the porno sites, as our former prime minister thinks.
But the most wonderful feature is the roof garden. The Warsaw University Library garden, designed by Irena Bajerska, was opened on June 12, 2002. It is one of the largest and most beautiful roof gardens in Europe with an area of more than 10,000 m2, and plants covering 5,111 m2.
It is open to the public every day from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m (from November 1 - March 31, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m.). It is a perfect resting place not only for Warsaw University students and employees but for all other people.
"by far my favourite place in the whole city - in the summer, i could spend the whole day laying around in the grass. the architechture and design of the whole place is breathtaking!" (student)
The University Library is called BUW in short (Biblioteka Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego) and having good time there is called BUWing - like clubbing. |
