Vilnius (Wilno / Wilna / Вильнюс / Вiльня / ווילנע / וילנה) is the capital of Lithuania (Lietuva / Litwa / Litauen / Литва / Літва / ליטע / ליטא).
Vilnius was once called the "Jerusalem of Lithuania", owing to its important Jewish population.
During World War II, the Nazis set up the Ghetto Vilnius (Vilniaus getas / גטו וילנה), exterminating virtually all Jewish inhabitants of the city, killing them on the spot or deporting them to concentration camps elsewhere.
This simple picture displays the memorial in the former Ghetto, in the Old Town district (Senamiestis). See an engraved map in the workshop.
This week, on the 27th of Nisan (May 2), it is observed the Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Ha Shoah).
