At the beginning of the 19th century such canals were usually so polluted, the posed a serious health risk. As a consequence they were usually either filled in and/or turned into underground sewers.
In Mechelen, a stretch of the old canals was recently opened up again to enhance the picturesque view of the city.
I love skies like this; the sun shining underneath a dark raincloud. An effect that people so often try to replicate with hdr photography and fail just as many times. |
