This tug looked far too small to be pulling three huge (empty) barges along a busy part of the river flowing through Bangkok city. The tall tower beyond is a Wat temple, one of many around the Chao Phraya River

Because of the many canals know as khlong, Bangkok was once dubbed "Venice of the East"

Rivers and canals here have always been vital forms of communication.

Hi Murray, in this workshop I wanted to darken things a bit and affect the colour, which seemed to have some strong cyan tones. To do this I first duplicated the layer and changed the blend mode to Multiply. This darkens things. I applied a layer mask and lightened up the barge and foreshore with a 50% opacity black brush as they were too dark. I then selected on the sky and added an overlay layer where I darkened with a 10% opacity black brush. I applied a Hue/Saturation layer to change the hue to a darker blue (I’m guessing at the tone here) and to lessen the saturation, but I increased the lightness a bit. With the tone change it got darker. I then selected on the sea and applied another hue/saturation layer increasing the hue very slightly and dropping the saturation. I didn’t change the lightness. Finally I went back to the first duplicated (multiply) layer and played a bit with the opacity, finally settling on 75%. I hope this meets with your approval. I have removed the copy from my terminal.

Regards, John
