 The Eastern Channel (30) Jakab
(2163) | The water supply and drainage of the Great Hungarian Plain (like that of probably all European flat lands) are solved by channels. The Hungarian channels are not passable by ships therefore the sign-board on the picture in the WS that prohibits dropping anchor seems to be quite funny. But the well accessible parts are excellent places for anglers as you can see on this picture.
The Main Eastern Channel starts at the dam of Tiszalök and transports maximal 60 cubic meter water per second. It was completed in 1956, has 98 km length, 25-30 m width and 3-4 m depth. The photo was taken near Hajdúszoboszló (click on the map), in the WS you can see the same channel in the opposite (southern) direction. |
