We saw this family of elephants in the Lobo area of the Serengeti National Park as we were heading for the Lobo Lodge.

The estimate of elephants in the Serengeti is approximately 2,000. Elephant herds are matriarchal and bulls only join the herd for mating.

You can tell by the focal length how close we were. There’s an even closer shot of what appeared to be the dominant female in the WS. There were several others in the herd dotted around the area.

I'm off to London tomorrow for the week-end, so I'll see you on Monday.

This female was close to the road. She seemed to be keeping her eye on things.
