 Tilted Rock (88) pboehringer
(16341) | During last Eastern I went to Death Valley to find some eastern bunny chocolate eggs. I didn’t find any and that was good. The already high temperatures there were incompatible with chocolate. Instead I found some most amazing landscapes that follow me into my dreams during the last nights.
The pictures that I made during this trip will be presented in a travelogue as well as under a theme collection that I discovered during this trip. The name of this collection will be “MOVEMENT”. Usually when we hear this word we associate it for example with people dancing, birds flying, animals running, cars racing, etc and will find it a little bit awkward to associate it with landscapes. I’m curious if you will be able to see what I mean with my following posts. Sometimes it might be quite obvious and other times a little bit hidden. The movement that you see here at the first post seems relatively clear with the tilted boulder in the foreground, but there is more and we would need to be there for many million years to see what I mean.
About this shot: Red Rock Canyon State Park is a relatively large area along Highway 14 located between Mojave and Inyokern. It has a nice campground that I used as a night break to get from my home to Death Valley. As the name of the place already suggest the rocks have a very interesting red hue that glows wonderfully during sunrise or sunset. It seems to be more or less to be neglected and certainly deserves more attention. So far we have only two posts of this place at TE. The present post and this here.

Hi Peter, I was hoping to add a little more "local" contrast to this one, and thought I'd sharpen it very slightly while I was in there. To to this I applied USM with a low amount and high radius for contrast (15, 20, 1). I then duplicated the layer and applied smart sharpen (100, .3, 1). I didn't want this in the sky or foreground, so I applied a layer mask and toned it down with an 80% black soft brush. The sharpening lightened the rock just a tad, so I applied a saturation layer (+15 to master). I hope this meets with your approval. I have removed the copy from my terminal.
