Hello folks.
This is the ‘Castel San Angelo’ in Rome. The bridge is called Ponte San Angelo. The castle is also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian. This Hadrian was a Roman emperor (117 - 138) and the building was used as a mausoleum for himself and his family. It was later used as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. It is located very close to Saint Peter’s cathedral as you can see in this WS.
Unfortunately it is not allowed to take photos inside the San Angelo. I think it’s a pity, because much of the memories from the trip is what the photos bring you. I can understand that you sometimes may not use the flash, but taking a photo without flash, I don’t get the idea why it’s not allowed. Here I wasn’t even allowed to take my monopod with me!
In this other WS the photo shows real cannonballs from the time they were used. I once learned that they placed them in pyramide shapes because it was easier to fast work out how many bullets there were left. They knew that a pyramide with a specific number of bullets in the base continued a totally specific number of bullets. They also knew the numbers of every layer and could easily see how many bullets there were left in the pyramide.
The white building of which you mostly just see the top floor is the Palazzo di Giustizia (Palace of Justice).
