Here in Sibu the main mode of transportation is by river so this statue of the swan is erected at the waterfront. Despite the building of the Trans Borneo Highway stretching across the length of Sarawak, water transport still remain popular to cater for those living along the banks of this swan river and its tributaries. For this reason the swan is selected to reflect the identity of this town being the largest situated along the river. This river is the longest in Malaysia and is now known as the Rajang River. |
