September, horseback, mountains (4)
alexgost Silver Note Writer [C: 3 W: 0 N: 10] (47)
It's September, and it's raining and the horse is scared as the slope is far too steep and very slippery. And I am scared, too. This photo is just like a diary record.
The grass is already burnt by the summer, and the snow on mountain tops is coming lower and lower, every morning.
But when I sit at home, in front of your computer, in the warmth and comfort of my house or my office and I look at this shot, I so want to be back on that horse and that slope.

Curves, Selected Brightness

I used Curves to lower the Red and Blue channels (and also the RGB) slightly; this is a matter of art, not science, so I can't describe it exactly. Then I selected for the sky, refined the edge so it wouldn't be obvious, and lowered Brightness and Contrast. Finally, I did a bit of High Pass sharpening on the whole: Create a duplicate layer, select Overlay Blending, then Filter->Other-High Pass and fiddle with the radius until it looks right. The problem with this technique is that while you're in the middle of it you can't really see the final outcome (you have to flatten the layers), so you may have to play with it to understand it. But I like it because it creates almost no sharpening artifacts.
