Silkroad travels: Kyrgyzstan

A cyclist's dream, the Kyzyl-suu valley! Herman Veldhuizen is under way in the direction of the Irkestam pass, the border to China. We are at 3'510 m altitude. In the background to the left is pik Kurumdy (6'613 m asl.)

As for the "dream": the road is nonexistent at this place, a series of parallel sandy tracks must do. The picture was not taken by me but by Blaise Fracheboud, another cyclist- colleague. And I was travelling in a truck, sick for the day! But despite all this harsh-reality-stuff, the day was wonderful, unforgettable.

In the workshop section I add a picture for Stefano of a broken front wheel

Blaise's wheel

The frontwheel of Blaise's bike broke (see picture) somewhere in the Pamir, I believe in Kara kum (Kuhistoni Badakhshan/ Tajikistan). With some solid tape wrapped around the broken part, Blaise continued driving right into China!!
