Inside of the limestone caves at Ipoh. Ipoh has many limestone caves due to the karstic formation around the city. The limestone hills extend from 20km north of the city to 20km south of the city.
These limestone caves are now in danger of being destroyed because of ever increasing demand of stone and cement. The Malaysian Karst Society is trying to protect these caves.
Ipoh is the capital city of the state of Perak in Malaysia. Its is about 200km north of Kuala Lumpur.
The name Ipoh originated from a local tree, which produces a poisonous sap. This sap is used by the Orang Asli (indegenous people of Malaysia) in their blowdarts.
