This is the church in Fortuna, Costa Rica, with Volcan Arenal behind. We had waited for 2 days walking in the foot hills in low cloud without a view. On the third day we woke up to this clear view but had booked to go rafting that day - doh!
We never did get any clear views at night when you can see the lava flows - very pleased to have got the views we did though.

Just downloaded NeatImage this morning as suggested by people here and tried it on some poor scans of slides taken earlier this year with the result seen. This is a vast improvement on the original grainy scan. If I over did things I found I lost detail on the volcano. I guess I need some practice. I have cropped a little and adjusted the saturation.

I decided to give this a go. I noticed that the church was pretty whitewashed (for instance, the clock is hard to make out), so I dimmed the gamma and contrast a bit. I also dimmed just the Blue, since I saw that the mountain was more blue than green. The biggest adjustment was something called "despeckle" in my image software, which made a large difference in the foreground plants.



The colors still don't seem quite right, and the mountain may very well have looked blue to the eye while you were there. Would be nice if you could go back to take a few more pictures, eh? ;). Difficulties aside, your framing the volcano with the church is perfect.
