This photograph was taken from the old Bellevue hotel in Darjeeling, the queen of the Hills! In our last tour we stayed in the old Bellevue Hotel, near the famous Darjeeling Mall. The hotel, established in 1897 is one of the oldest in Darjeeling. There are other extensions of this hotel with the same name, but we stayed in the oldest one. The rooms were well decorated with wooden floor, fireplace, antichamber with all modern day facilities. I enjoyed the oldness in the construction and pattern of that hotel very much. It seems like that we have gone to the old days!
The day this photo was taken was very cloudy. We were planning to go out for taking some snaps and were very much frustrated seeing the dark clouds in the sky. Finally sun beams came out through the cloud and we were happy enough to see that!

One of the most beautiful shots I have seen of Darjeeling..apart from the regular ones..the problems with this pic were
*grains
*one line on the top half of the pic(printing problem)
*halo around trees
*and a bit of colour loss due to scanning..

WITH DUE RESPECT TO THE OTHER ws EDITORS i HAVE TRIED TO RECTIFY THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEMS..

*AUTOLEVELS
*NEAT IMAGE TO TAKE CARE OF GRAINS
*COLOUR BALANCE(RED AND BLUE ADDED)
*SELECTIVE BURNING OF THE CLOUDS 12%
*LEVELING
*NEAT IMAGE AGAIN WITH MANUAL ARRANGEMENTS
*CLONE STAMPED THE HALO AROUND TREES ON THE LSFT AND RIGHT..AND ALSO THE SMALL WHITE DOTS
*CURVES
*FRAMED IT

I HOPE U LIKE IT...!!!!!!!!!!!

PS

The phenomenon of sunrays piercing the clouds and falling on the earth must have gripped even the aboriginal man’s imagination and filled him wonder and awe. We share that feeling even today.
The image is either a low quality scan of a photograph or has been shot at high ISO rating, filling it with a great deal of noise. Then there is this brown horizontal line across the clouds that disturbs the unity of the image.
I tried two different approaches to modify this image in the PS. In the first one, I cropped the picture at the bottom and the sides with a view to putting a frame around it. Then I cloned off the horizontal brown line across the clouds (it is easy to take liberty with clouds; they don’t mind getting messed around in shapes and shades.). Then I increased saturation and contrast by a few degrees and clarified the image to get a better depth of view. Finally, NoiseWare was used to filter out noise. As the final step, I put a light frame around the image.
In the second approach, I cropped off the entire upper cloud zone including the brown line. Then I removed the noise with NoiseWare. As the final step, I enhanced saturation only slightly to give more colour to the clouds and the sunrays. The image turned out to be light in tones with blue being the dominant colour. No framing could be done with the length retained at 800.
I compared the two versions and decided to post the first one as workshop. It is a bit dark but highlights the essence of the view.

Grains

till the moment you get more tools to mannage grains I did it for you and played around a bit with light and shadows in the clouds to make it more dramatic.

With a crop and a white border you mask also a lot of imperfections.
