Santiago's Contrasts (74)

Hello to all of you! I'm back... and yes, I made it to the top of Aconcagua on February 19th. But before posting the photo from the summit, let's start the trip from the beginning...
I left Geneva a little over three weeks ago, transited via Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and after a 14-hour non-stop flight, landed in Chile's capital on February 5th. Stuck between the Andes cordillera and the Pacific Ocean, Santiago lies at 540 meters and is home to about 6 million people.
Like in many South American cities, the historic centre is made up of colonial buildings. However, Santiago also boasts some very modern architecture that towers high above the rest of the city. The best example I found to illustrate this is at the Plaza de Armas, where the 18th century cathedral reflects in a modern mirror-glass office building just on the other side of the street.
