A misty Pond (36)

This picture was taken in Gifu Prefecture, the same day I shot the row of boats. It was pretty dark but I managed to capture the mist in the background, I took several shots at this and then the mist dissappeared so I was quite lucky to get this effect I guess.

Yes, these mushroom stone shaped objects were actually used in Japanese gardens back in the days when they didnt have electricity and they would put candles inside to light up the garden, I dont think they use them for the same purposes nowadays.

I hope you like this shot

I will be in Hong Kong from today for 5 days and then Malaysia for 5 days, see you when I get back TE friends

Ok, firstly, great shot to begin with! In my opionion there are just a few things that can be done in post-processing to make it even better.

The image seems a bit 'washed out', which can be corrected by the following:
1) Levels - adjust black point slider to darken shadows
2) Curves - create S-shaped curve to increase contrast
3) Select and feather selection on stone lamp in foreground and use 'burn tool' to darken stone, bringing out details. Any other details that appear too light can be burned like this e.g. frog
4) Increase colour saturation in appropriate areas (green, yellow and red all over, magenta in top right)
5) Warming filter to enhance all colours.
6) Unsharp Mask - sharpen details
The whole process takes about 20 mins. Hope this helps!
