 Poulnabrone Dolmen (38) amstel
(2109) | Polnabrone Dolmen is located in the Burren region in the western Ireland. The land is full of contradictions. It looks very harsh, sometimes even bears some resemblance to the moon. The surface is full of rocks and at first sight it seems nothing can grow there. When the chief of Cromwell's army entered the area in 1600s, he wrote a message to his principal describing the Burren:
'It is a country where there is not water enough to drown a man, wood enough to hang one, nor earth enough to bury him'
Well, nice remarks, aren't they?:-)
the Burren, however harsh it looks, is has very fertile soil. It's unbelievable, but plants from almost all the world's regions grow there, thanks to its island location and winds.
In the picture there's one of the Burren's dolmens. They are believed to be older than Stonhenge. |
