This shot of the Aurora borealis, the Northern Lights, was taken in September 2003 near Meadow Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. The location is at 54degrees N Latitude and 69degrees W Longitude and the displays are relatively frequent.
There was a full moon that night and the display was fantastic despite the bright moonlight. The temperature was around freezing and it was possible to stay outside on the beach and watch the dancing lights for a few hours. It was very quiet with only a lonely loon calling and a wolf howling in the forest.

optical Lens Correction
Edited by:hispic Gold Star Critiquer/Gold Star Workshop Editor/Gold Note Writer [C: 711 W: 361 N: 951] (4922)

I tried to straighten the horizon and to remove the noise.

1. corrected the horizon by the optical Lens Correction filter in PS2.
2. darken the part of the sky to accentuate the aurora.
3. unsharp mask(240%, 0.2, 2) in L channel of Lab color mode.
4. and added the frame.
5. removed the noise in NeatImage (Noise Reduction Amounts H:50% M:25% L:10%).

hope you like it!

Ninja noise

With the ninja noise plug-in I removed some noise (loosing sharpness). I rotated the picture 1,3 degrees clockwise.
