Another image from one of my favorite places to shoot: the marshes near my home. My kids and I like to go canoeing here. We'll try winter canoeing this year, and in the Spring, we'll get serious about bird watching, thanks to Callie (cdewet).

I'd love some help with this image. I think it has super potential, and it's one of the few photos I've taken that made me gasp when I first saw it. I welcome your suggestions!

Play a litle with, and took the middle.

The original: the dark part is almost one third ,

it's to "heavy" for me. Cropped a little. So my eyes are wondering over the landscape, without having the feeling to be in the air - as in your WS - just because of the smaller part of the dock.

I first cropped off the border (required before using contrast masking). Then applied Neat Image (version 3 is so much faster!). Cloned out a couple of impurities in the water. Then applied contrast masking (with opacity of 70% and gaussian blur of 30). Sharpened a bit (which I always do after using contrast masking). Added a new border.



IMO, a somewhat lighter foreground is in harmony with the mountains and sky and with their reflections. Perhaps a selective use of neat image might have been better? In any event, an excellent photograph.

The same shot with the dock removed. I much prefer the dock to be present, perhaps because it infers a story of some kind. This is kind of weird for me, since I always try to eliminate "humanness" in my nature shots. It would be nice to know what you think.
