May is a fantastic time to be in Sydney. Every year, Vivid Sydney lights up our Harbour, skyscrapers and surrounding waterways. The star of the show is always our Opera House, the creation of Danish architect Jørn Utzon (1918-2008). It's easy to take this building for granted when you see it everyday, but on nights like this one, one can really appreciate just how magnificent it is. Frank Gehry described his masterpiece thus, "Utzon made a building well ahead of its time, far ahead of available technology, and he persevered through extraordinarily malicious publicity and negative criticism to build a building that changed the image of an entire country".
My Workshop shows a very famous photograph of Jorn Utzon taken by Josef Lebovic, an Australian photographer whom I have met a few times and whose work I admire.
