A Kazakh elder poses in front of the vast sweeping steppes of western Mongolia.
If you want to get away from it all, it doesn't get much farther away than the steppes in the remote state of Hovd. Apart from scattered families living in Gers, there is nothing and nobody.
Whenever I was spotted on my hike eastward toward a small township, the Kazakhs welcomed me, offering food, tea and respite from the cold winds.
It's a dreamscape in the most pure form.
