On January 30th every year,is celebrated the recovery of the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary after vision that saw during her sleep,the nun St.Pelagia.
The icon is widely believed to be the source of numerous miracles so the day of the recovery, January 30th, is celebrated from 1823 annually.
The pilgrims below,natives and visitors like me in the island, were gathered in the interior yard of the church symbolizing the farmers, that with the announcement of the recovery, run with their lanterns,the electricity there is not yet,to the place where the miraculous icon was found.
The moving pilgrims and the low lighting conditions were so difficult,so i was obligated to use ISO 1600 and no tripod,because of the density of the people standing on the balcony as watching the ceremony.
After the ceremony a torchlight procession take place thought the narrow alleys of the the old city, ending at old port of the island.
