This is a photo of Point Pleasant Park, located in Halifax's south end. It was originally used for military fortifications up until the late 1800s and was then converted into a nice place to wander around, take your dog for a stroll, have a picnic, etc. Unfortunately in 2003 we had a record breaking hurricane (Hurricane Juan) that destroyed over 70,000 trees in the park and caused it to close from October until June. It was a huge adjustment to go back to a bare park but I am getting more used to it now and think it's rather nice to be able to see the harbour where we otherwise could not for the trees. Still I miss them! In the summer a local theatre company puts on 'Shakespeare by the Sea' at Point Pleasant where the audience often follows the actors around the barracks and surrounding areas as they act out plays like Hamlet and Macbeth. It's rather impressive. I have posted a workshop of a close-up view of one of the old military structures. Finally a decent winter day came to take some pictures!
