Photographer’s Note
In the same market, after the photos of the very big crowd watching, I tried to go back to oblivion but just on my left (remembering exactly the circumstances), there was another group of giggling (mostly) women watching me with the same intensity and amusement… So I asked again if I could take photos and the 1st of the series is the best IMO.
A collection of friendly faces... When they were all laughing and looking at me a moment earlier, most of them did not dare looking at the camera and instead : ... look at the direction of their eyes... In India, women seem to me much more discreet and modest than men (but this is a big generalisation of course).
B&W version looks much better than the colour version, the only thing that I regret is that the red ‘sindoor’ powder, sign of wedding on the forehead on some Hindu women (implying passion, fertility and strength) is only visible in colours of course.

Hello Cathrine
Amazing photo of the women from India.
The choice of B/W color is successful as well as the atmosphere.

Wow, what a feeling, making photos of such "perfectly casted" community could have been a really good experience. I like the compo, the atmosphere of love radiating from the central woman. Many many thanks for sharing, Jalab

Very powerfully captured moment. The variety of expresions make for a quiltlike composition of emotion.

Hello Catherine,
Oh, those faces, those eyes looking here, there and everywhere, those proud/shy/embarrased smiles. Very good grey tones.

Madam,
When you hit hard, you really do!
This is an absolutely stunnig moment in life. Again a diamond of humanity form you.
You know what?
I will start thinking that you have already known half of the world till now, and have already had warm conversations and made jokes with them.
Look at the faces! This is just great!

Hi dear Cath,
First of all the b&w choice was correct. Colro version is in my opinion much more National Geographical style, whereas the b&w choice is much mor artisanal and effectfull.
Every single face has another story to tell. But my favorite is the little schoolgirl at left corner with her necktie ! Typical marks of centurylong british influence !
TFS and have anice day
Best regards

Bonjour Catherine,
Yves.

Dear Cath,
I knew you would go back to portraits sooner rather than later :) too many landscapes from you recently...but it was such a treat to see them. shows how multitalented you are. i love your portraits too, especially those that have faces with incredible expressions, like this one. FANTASTIC shot!

bonjour catherine

Hello Cath,
love your notes and love your WS's. all of them are so informative, so instructive... a very good teaching material.
I can say that this is a classical noborders photo showing all the naive-direct expressions of people.

what expressive expressions! it is fun to study each face looking at different directions with different emotions. bw version is more impressive as you said, but I like the colour version as well - after all, india means colours.
lots of hugs and kisses from hot and boring ankara

Lovely expressions in b/w with this curious colelction of people. I like your approach as usual and the way you have crowded them in a single frame
