Photographer’s Note

The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is a catholic church, located in the city with the same name, in Quebec province. Each year, over a million and a half pilgrims and visitors come to the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré for prayer and admiring the architecture. It will celebrate its 350th anniversary in 2008. But this church was built in 1923 and is the fifth one, because previous buildings had been destroyed by bad weather and a fire.
Saint Anne is the patroness of the province of Quebec.

This picture was scanned. I employed Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 to convert in B&W, enhance contrast and sharpness, crop and frame (thanks again Peter, we appreciate very much this precious software).

This church is more likely to be found in France than in North America. However this beautiful building is right here :-) Beautiful indeed and the details on the facade are clearly seen. The black and white give the image a more dramatic, solemn mood. Nice work Maria do Carmo.

Olá Maria,
I like this b&w picture with its strong difference of light and shadows. The enlighted facade with the good POV really raises the front to heaven and the partly darkness is a good framing.

mi piace molto questa foto in bianco e nero con un forte contrasto tra la luce e le zone d'ombra , la chiesa e' molto bella .

muy buen trabajo con POV perfecto y encuadre.
la conversion a B&W me parece muy acertadad con bastantes tonos en gris, quizas al convertirla te ha perdido un poco de definicion.
he intenta un WS y al final si he dedicido subirlo

Maria do Carmo, das igrejas que conheci em Québec esta é uma das minhas favoritas! Adorei o astal da igreja e o lugar onde ela foi construída. Santa Ana, a avó de Jesus, esquecida em muitos lugares e justamente homenageada aqui. Tenho duas fotos dela também: Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre e Mass.
A versão de sua foto está bastante interessante, parecendo uma foto antiga, uma relíquia. Obrigado por postar!

Maria, my frist impression was a certain deception thinking that the scanning process really destroyed the image, but the longer I look into the image the more I like it. That B&W with the noise gives such an interesting atmosphere to the image. The high contrast between the sunlite and shadows is wonderful and the two white towers straight up into the dark sky is absolutely beautiful. You see, at the end I'm totally enthusiastic with the shot. Yet, this frame is still something I have to get used to (my personal taste).

foto molto ben composta e dal tuo POV si ammira al 100% la bellissima Cattedrale.
Il B/N rende bene, accentuando il gioco di luci ed ombre.
Forse manca un pò di nitidezza, ma il risultato è ok.

Hi Maria,

Wonderful B&W shot. Very well-composed with very nice framing. I love the feeling of a photo that is maybe 40-50 years old. Also an excellent use of the dramatic weather condition. The church looks beautiful agaist the dark clouds in the background. Have a nice weekend!
