Photographer’s Note

Moorea is a high island in French Polynesia, sister to Tahiti, lying 17 kilometers (roughly 9mi) northwest of Papeete. Several ferries go to Moorea daily, from the port of Papeete, an average trip of forty-five minutes. There is also an small airport with connection to the international airport in Papetee. The flight takes only 4 or 5 minutes.
The shape of the island vaguely resembles a fork with two main bays on the north side of the island: Cook's Bay and Oponohu Bay.
Moorea actually means "yellow lizard", a name expounded-upon in and many local legends. An older name for the island is Aimeo or Eimeo.
This is a view of Cook's Bay, with the Mount Rotui, the one that separates Cook's Bay with the Oponohu Bay.
Rotui is one of the 8 vertical peaks (some higher than 1.200 meters), with pyramid shape.
Moorea with Rangiroa, Aitutaki and Bora are the jewels of the South Sea.

At that SITE you'll find a good map of Moorea

At thAT OTHER TE SITE you'll find a great shot of TE member Daniel Pivnick, with a view from the most famous panoramic point of the whole Polynesia. (we went there, but our photocamera was broken...and was broken for 8 days in the 10 that we spent in Polynesia! ...AARRRGHHHH!!!)
