There are so many discussions on the forum about TrekEarth Terms and Conditions and about the rules which apply to posting photos. Usually people focus on the negatives. So here is a positive example. You know how you have sometimes a magnificent view but it lacks a good foreground to be captured in an interesting way? The foreground could be for example a good looking girl but if you are married it is inappropriate to look at other women and even more to photograph them. One of the rules on TrekEarth says that we are not allowed to upload photos of our relatives or friends. So here you are: I have explained to my wife the rule and I say: of course you are my favourite photo model and the most beautiful woman in the world but the reason I would like to photograph this other attractive girl is simply to comply with TrekEarth Terms and Conditions, because posting a photo with you would be against TrekEarth rules…
This photo presents a very popular view of Valletta taken across a bay from Sliema. Usually people include here a passing boat as a foreground, I really liked to include the waterfront promenade for a change. Valletta is a beautiful place for a walk yet it lacks as recognizable buildings like Eiffel Tower. These two churches visible here are not even the most prominent but the only ones which are kind of characteristic to the capital’s panorama. To get to this POV I took a ferry from Valletta to Sliema which was itself a very pleasant experience.

A short note because I want to be the first
Happy you are back with photos and your funny sense of humor
Your capture will be the first for always with this unusual FG, all that trouble because TE Terms and Conditions, well done
Malta seems to be a pleasant port with interesting architecture that you managed to present under a blue sky and a golden light
Like also the vertical format that goes up as the lamp and the church towers
Greetings and congrats

You have given us an interesting note - as well as a very diplomatic discussion on how to include a pretty girl in your picture when your wife is watching you. So now I know why TE has such helpful rules! Of course, just because you are on a diet does not mean that you're not allowed to read the menu!
Anyway, Mariusz, this is a beautiful shot in which the young lady only serves to add some foreground interest and add some dynamism to the foreground, so leading our eyes toward the distant view across this magnificent city. The railings add to that direction and the lamppost also serves to balance the beautiful dome of the distant church.
Gorgeous light and colours, perfect composition and exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
williewhistler (10899) 2013-07-01 14:39
Hello Mariusz, like you, I too like to keep to the rules, so I shall make no mention of the lady in short shorts striding purposefully into the scene but instead concentrate upon the fine architectural features in the BG.
Very sharp and exceedingly well composed it`s a lovely image to reflect upon.
Kindest regards Les.
worldcitizen (6025) 2013-07-01 14:42
Nice note. ;-) I think you were perfectly within reason to capture a shapely young woman in the foreground. After all, her shorts, bag, and shoes all match with the color scheme of Valletta. :-) The view of the city is beautiful, and the woman and lamp post balance out the foreground nicely. I also like the slice of water that's visible.
photoray (7952) 2013-07-01 14:56
Certainly an eye-full, combining the attractive Malta architecture and promenanding female in short shorts, blending shades of beige.
And good thing you did not violate TE's wife model images. I had a beach side photo of crashing waves and attractive bikin clad female deleted by TE because they said it was my wife. Fortunately my wife never saw the model....
KristinsCamera (2373) 2013-07-01 16:13
hello mariusz ~
as a female, i like this photo because in my mind, it represent a modern, contemporary woman set against traditional, ancient architectures.
however, i have a hunch the male TE photographers viewing this will appreciate the repetition of curvilinear lines ;)
PaulVDV (18754) 2013-07-01 19:40
I think your wife better keeps an eye on you :)
Wonderful view of Valletta. An attractive composition with the diagonal line of the railing. The lamp post serves well as a counterweight in the picture.
Best regards, Paul

jimmj63 (2295) 2013-07-01 23:43
I WILL FOLLOW YOUR SUGGESTION AND YOUR EXAMPLE IN MY NEXT SHOT!!
and so, very good wiew of this amazing panorama.
holmertz (33523) 2013-07-02 2:28
You give us an interesting and amusing note with this fine photo. I fully agree that a lot of photos of beautiful views need a person - or some catchy object - in the foreground to become more lively and interesting, also to gain depth.
Feel free to use your wife anytime, just don't tell anyone :-). Maybe this is your wife. How would anyone know?
Although this is a very well balanced composition, with the lamppost matching the church tower, and the railings making a diagonal balancing the horizontal line further away, it would have been empty without this woman.
dkmurphys (44090) 2013-07-02 3:40
Very beautiful capture of that impressive city. I'll be there in August. Good note too, you're right.
danos (80288) 2013-07-02 3:49
your explanation due to the rules of TE as your wife too,are very informative as uderstanding your shoting these beautiful buns of the passig by woman in front of your lens. The beautiful section of Valletta completes perfect the whole scenery.
SnapRJW (26134) 2013-07-02 3:50
Hello Mariusz - I smiled at your note and personally think there is a difference between having a family member in an image to give a reference point, scale etc and a 'family snap-shot'. If your lovely wife had been the one that walked into the frame in the manner of this lovely girl adding FG interest could one really say it was a photo of any less merit or interest? I think not. The figure here adds to the composition and we can imagine her striding out to visit some of the wonderful architecture across the water. I do like the way her clothing harmonises with the buildings, well spotted! Of course your choice of figure has nothing to do with her cheeky bottom! Warm regards Rosemary
CLODO (27504) 2013-07-02 4:23
What a title, and the explanations!!!I am not sure whre to fix my look!!LOL
You can take your wife without telling us who she is, but you prefer to respect the TE rules!
yquem46 (37514) 2013-07-02 4:27
A nice shot and a gorgeous text
I'll use the argument with my own wife !

Namastey Mariusz...........Very interesting foreground and background indeed :) ............... lovely capture and a LOL note.......... tfs
Sergiom (49008) 2013-07-02 5:53

Have already said enough..would reserve comments...Nice capture!!
ikeharel (47000) 2013-07-02 10:13
Well my friend, you got permission from your wife to take picture of young ladies, with a good exuse, while strolling in Valletta. I like the idea, I will prepare an explantion myself...
Nice taken the point over town's dome and building, fine light collected.
Romano46 (14520) 2013-07-02 10:39
Ciao e buona serata

A very pleasing way toositively interpret those rules and it's created a very fine picture. Beautiful backdrop and a very fine foreground too, you have all the interest you need there :)
All the best
marabu61 (6303) 2013-07-02 14:28
I think you have all our full attention with this gorgeous composition. The back- and the foreground are both equally attractive and Valetta looks like quite a pleasant place. That huge dome seems to be very interesting and cries for further investigation.
Your note made me laugh out loud. A perfect excuse for taking pictures of pretty girls. But even though I don't understand the TE rule of including family members as long as they are not the main subject and are simply there to provide a reference point or a point of interest in a maybe otherwise dull landscape, I too like to adhere to the rules.
have a good week

Great comeback.Nice composition on this perfect capture.Splendid lightning usage and amzing POV.Very good job & result.

Hello Mariusz. Interesting title, interesting photo and text. Yes, we can do it. Nevertheless, I prefer to see people from the front. But of course this is a broad topic for photographers.

of Look I , very beautiful landscape in the background, without the presence of Mrs.
A good resolution
And light management
Have a nice day

Good compo of an everyday street scene with all the right elements thrown in with a nice view in the background. Excellent color contrast and superb clarity. Well done

Two very attractive subjects in a single frame.
Magnificent composition .Sharpness and clarity are perfect. TFS.

Piêkna architektura w glebi.
Ciekawy obiekt na pierwszym planie ;)
Dobry reporterski strzal.
Szkoda, ze od tylu :(
macjake (48357) 2013-07-04 14:26
haha...I guess all men should use these Terms and Conditions, and maybe more than once :)
Did you mention something about a background?
I don't see a background subject...wait...let me view the photo again to make sure...
I still don't see any background subjects!
terrific post for TE!
Sonata11 (31883) 2013-07-04 21:51
piekne zdjecie pokazujac piekna architecture. Mnie podoba sie to zdjecie. Pieknie wykonane pod kazdym wzgledem. Wspaniala praca.

Attractive eye-catching photo,
Nice vertical fotmat.
Excellent lighting and superb colors.
Gtraz street life and daily life scene.
I like composition.
josepmarin (57069) 2013-07-06 8:58
I love your explanations about this capture, related with the TOS of TE.
And of course, you offer us a fantastic view from the architecture of the city, but with an interesting foreground where the lamppost and the walking girl are playing a good graphical role.
I like the play of light and shades as well.
It's a great work.
maloutim (9619) 2013-07-08 0:29
Very funny, appropriate note ! The title could also have been : "How to bypass Trekearth rules", or else "How to bypass matrimonial rules" :-)
Excellent view of this part of Valletta, with good contrasts between the big rounded dome, the slender, vertical tower and the horizontal buildings around !
Great composition with the promenade in diagonal and the beautiful model on it !
dta (59121) 2013-07-09 10:39
Hello Mariusz ,
Thanks for this funny note . The composition is excellent , but may be that the FG is a little too much distracting ;) , and it is difficult to take attention of the beautiful architecture in the BG .
Urs (14082) 2013-07-10 2:56
Terms and Conditions, yeah, that certainly is a problem for some but not for me. Why? I'm married, but we both shoot pictures for magazines and press agencies, where we have the similar terms and conditions as in TE. We strictly take pictures without us, pictures with us are private.
I like your POV and subject a lot, it is well framed and focused. Colour hues are vivid and the light management is perfect. Well done
tedesse (24302) 2013-07-11 13:38
Wspaniala pocztowka z Valletty.
Doskonaly POV i kompozycja, super kolory i swiatlo, doskonala ostrosc.
Angshu (53665) 2013-07-15 23:42
Your sense of humour is excellent...loved reading your note!
Beautiful and crips picture from Valletta...I don't know, however, if this picture can be construed as a postcard ;-)
The BG is very interesting especially the large dome. Its also interesting to see all buildings having the same brownish shade
Enough has been said already about the FG interest!
andywo (4703) 2013-07-25 12:21
To nie podoba mi sie twoja praca. To jakies dziwne(?) polaczenie sexu i zabytkow.
bayno (18340) 2013-10-06 0:31
I smiled as I read the note, excellent composition, beautiful subject in the Fg and magnificent backgroundand, beautiful shadows and light, superb quality...
have a good sunday...
