Photographer’s Note

(Thank you MrCairo for giving me the idea of the title, I had first called this photo "a sudden change of heart" : not wild enough !)

According to common belief, Roma/Gypsie women are strong-willed and free… I don’t know much on the subject, but when she was with her relatives, this woman refused to be taken more than one time in photo, it seemed for fear of what the family (the men) would think.

It was unfortunately too late, but just when we were about to leave their camp and when the light had already gone, she came on her own and hid herself behind this red van, picked a young cousin who was passing by and asked me to take her portrait with him, posing several times (this is to reassure you about the length of the neck of the boy:o))). Fortunately they did not move : photo taken at ISO 100, like all the preceding ones ; the light conditions were not optimal unfortunately.

Taken in Dedebag, a garden in the vicinity of HACIBEKTAS (Wiki : see this interesting links to Bektashism too !) during the big festival which happened for only 2 days and which attracted a lot of Roma families. (The jewel that she wears on her neck is typical of a branch of Islam that is said to be very tolerant, the ALEVI culture, with a tiny portrait of Ali on top of the mini sword).
