Photographer's Note
The Riva in Split is a modern walkway along the harbour and is bordered by cafes where it seems important to see and be seen. There are palm trees, seats and flower beds. It was only completed in May 2007 and was apparently unpopular with the local people as it isn’t in keeping with the Old Town and Diocletian’s Palace (more in later posts) which is behind it. You can see the Romanesque bell tower of the Cathedral of St Domnius which occupies part of the palace.

Hi Kath,
I have good memories from Split some 22 years ago, especially the esplanade by the harbour was very enjoyable and lively at night. Nice view with summer appeal in the colors and light but with surprisingly few people.
Have a nice day jY

Hello Kath,
Pleasing summery feel to this image. Good use of the vertical format emphasising the perspective offered by the quayside walk as it curves round the bay. Very good colours and clarity.

At last you had some sunshine in Split!
;-D
Excellent colours and fine composition, Kath. Rather strange
to see an empty bench - usually you can't find any when
the weather is like this.
Given you shot this one at ISO200, I admire your skill in
handling the highlights in pp-ing.
Lovely, well balanced.

Kath,
The vertical format works very well here with the palm trees framing the scene nicely. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and DOF. The promenade leads the eye into the shot nicely giving the photo a nice sense of direction. The lines created by the promenade and boats work well with the lines created by the clouds that together for a < that lead the eye to the tower.
TFS,

Hello Kath ,
Very fine view , that gives more importance to the fore-ground : palm trees , flowers , the bench .
May be a little too much sky , but this is a good composition that is an invitation to discover more in the town .

Hi, Kath -
A lovely arrangement. Great use of colors and diagonals.
There is a kind of an antique postcard feel to it, at least on my screen. Did you plan that?
Best,

Hi Kath,
This looks like a nice place to relax and unwind. Good perspective looking down the walkway and with all the boats on the side, and I like your composition including the palm trees on the side which frame the scene quite nicely together with the colourful flowers in the foreground. Bonjour Kath,
une photo carte postale bien colorée, touristique et qui incite à la visite, on y remarque le beau temps, le soleil, qui nous manque cruellement pour l'instant.
Un excellent cadrage fermé à gauche par la nature.

Hi Kath,
Beautiful atmosphere of holidays on this photograph. The walk along this port must be really pleasant. I like much your vertical framing with these palm trees on the left which reinforces the side idleness !!! Good management of the light and the natural colors. Pretty and interesting glance Kath, cheer.

Hello Kath
The boats are so tightly packed that we cannot see a bit of water! Well composed in a diagonal with the flower bed in the FG very attractive. Good framing with the row of palm trees on the left. The tower of the church catches the eye as does the tall sail of the boat..Well done.

Perfect vertical compo with everything in the right place. It's almost a < window for the walkway, made with the palmetrees and the flower bed fit right on the corner. The edge with the stone poles lead us to the bell tower. Beautiful modern part of Split. Of course that the charm of the old center is usually nicer...

Hello Kath,
It is a beautiful image that it invites to walk and to enjoying this calm walkway in the port.
Your vertical composition is good and combines finely the palms, the flowers, the people, the boats and the sky, with a nice architecture of the city in background.
The light is treated well.
Excellent work, my friend.
Best wishes,
Josep

Hello Kath,
It may have been unpopular, no-one likes change, but you have shown it to be very beautiful and exceptionally clean!
I like how you have achored the image with the tree, have good f/g interest with the flowers and then taken the eye into the distance with the receding, diagonal line of mooring posts. Lovely details ... triggering a desire to be there!
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Nice composition with only part of the palms in foreground.

Hi Kath,
Your framing is spectacular; I love the way the diagonal lines of the clouds meet with the diagonal lines of the walkway. Your light management is impeccable and the detail is pin-sharp. It is a lovely scene with the flowers, bench and palms; but one can see why the locals are upset, this is a very stndard waterfront. It could have almost been taken in San Diego.

Hi Kath,
I see you have been quite active during my absence.
This is a very pleasant view, very wisely composed. The walkway coming from the corner leads the eye to the cathedral, which stands out nicely even being distant. The clouds enhance the effect, making the image very dynamic. I like the sense of depth. The flowers on the FG and the palm trees on the left give a great balance and a touch of joyful colour. The bench makes me wanting to be there enjoying the warmth and the view.
Regards, José.

Hi Kath,
Lovely vertical presentation of this beautiful harbor path that is seen in wonderful light and shadows.
The stone walkway and tropical palms lead nicely to the impressive architecture and neatly moored pleasure crafts.
