in the deep fog - II Photo

Photographer’s Note

In the hills about 40 km from Araku valley (Vizag area, north AP), early morning, the fog was embracing everything - this woman was heading towards her house in the jungle, coming from the unique fountain in the small village (Dhumku, where I rented a hut for 2 days) and there was all day a constant traffic of women fetching the precious water.

All the persons met that morning were like surprising, surreal apparitions, suddleny there and quickly disappearing in the fog : absolutely enchanting. (1st photo here : taken a bit later...)

(But I tried several versions for this shot and none of them satisfies me entirely - too much sharpness or too many colours would change the atmosphere, I prefer it to remain hazy but maybe some of you would disagree - your ideas are all welcome !)

bonjour Catherine, j aime ici l atmosphere avc cet epais brouillard, pas trop dur a supporter pour nous occidentaux??? car sans doute chaud en meme temps? en tout cas, peut etre essayer du BW, pour ne pas denaturer de trop, cela vaudrait la peine d essayer??? passe une bonne journee

There is a fantastic indian film by Satyiajit Ray called in "Phater Panchali" and this photo reminds me to this tender and sad story... Have you seen it? The foggy atmosphere works so well here. Congratulations.

bonjour catherine
on hésite souvent a faire des photos dans le brouillard, c'est dommage, car souvent le resultat est spectaculaire, les formes se transforment, les couleurs s'appaisent, tout devient different et ta photo nous montre une excellente atmosphere, comme si cette femme partait pour l'inconnu.

I can feel the heat and the moist air... almost!
Situation is well captured and the image tells the story of everyday struggle well...
I like the composition, image might have been extended in the width to include some of the activity on the side we get a hint of..!

This again is another jewel !
A capture is a perfect capture, if it is able to give life to another captures. And this is such a work. You can use it in b&w, in sepia, crop it etc.
Great graphical effect.
I'll take much more care when using the water at home !

les photos avec de la brume sont d'amblee intressantes. La dimension du misterieux y contribue beaucoup. Ici, en plus, tu as un beau modele tres bien plasse, ou bien c'est toi qui l'a tres bien positione. C'est beau et grand merci - j'ai eu le plaisir de te revoir.

Documentary photographywise, you have created a niche here, but if you ask me this is one of the best ones, purely in terms of photography. The mood, the fog, the placement of the woman & the tree all are perfect. I agree with the sharpness & colours in totality. I also like the WS with the children. Well done!

I think I like it as it is. Haze with muted colors works well for me. Oversaturation would stick out. You have captured the mood beautifully in an exquisite composition. Very nice! Best wishes,

You have an impressive portfolio Catherine with mostly people in your focus.
I like this setting in the mist or fog with the right inclusion of details to make the compo interesting. Good use of the vertical format and with a good placement of the passing woman. A most interesting overall result.

Je viens de regarder tes dernières images et me suis arrêtée sur celle ci, où j'aime bien l'atmosphère de la brume qui laisse apparaitre les silhouettes d'une femme portant ses pots remplis d'eau, d'un homme affairé à ses occupations et du palmier.
