No polarizing filter this time due to low light levels & an overcast sky. Taken from the Beijing to Ulan Bator train, a 30 hour trip, that reaches the border around midnight. This was taken the following morning, deep inside east Gobi province or 'aimaag'.
"Aimag (Mongolian: Аймаг) is a Mongolian and Turkic word for a tribe. It is also used as a term for country subdivisions in Mongolia and China. The name of the Aimak peoples in central Afghanistan derives from the same root."
There is a little fg motion blur, as the train was travelling around 70km per hour. I used as high a shutter speed as possible, to freeze movement as far as possible (1/500 to 1/1000 sec)
This is the first upload ever, on TE, from this area of Mongolia.

Hi Chris...an alternative title: the nothing all around!
good one, with the long view all along the light blue train and with good quality too.

Thanks, Chris, for sharing this landscape and your train experience, I like the POV with the attractive curve of the train, I esp. like how the last wagon "opens up" towards the viewer, cheers :) Daniel

An excellent perspective making very good use of the sweeping curve of the train and railway line. I like the soft light and colours. Very good clarity.

The perspective on this train is amazing and we can see a beautifull landscape also.

Bonjour, mon ami Chris,
Toujours par monts et par vaux. J'ai regardé avec beaucoup de plaisir vos dernières images. Merci, Chris, de nous faire connaître et nous présenter d'une aussi belle façon ces paysages du bout du monde.

i understand that you made some shots during a 30 hours trip ! interesting composition using the curve including the train, and showing the semi desertic area

When I imagine Mongolia I think this is what it looks like. Long stretches of open ground, with no trees to obstruct the view, and no farms, towns or anything else either. Just the land, as it has existed for eons. Great shot considering it was taken from a train!

A very good impressive view with blue train, clarity is superb.
I like this POV...

.nice blue color to match blue sky
.dotted patches of green grass

Seen well the centring with the curve of cars. A desert but colored landscape and an attractive light.

Pleasant framing and good lines!
The feeling of depth is present, in this vast monotonous landscape...

I like very much this composition showing the train on the side. It remembers me of some trip I did a long time ago in Peru. Immense very wide landscape like here and the train going. A great feeling.

There's a definite lack of features on the left...absolute barrenness. Like the curve of the train & the blue of it as well as the sky contrasting well with the landscape colours. Good work!

from thumbnail not quite visible, but when seeing photo in real size I must compliment chosen POV with train from the edge leading toward the centre of the image. Excellent! It really makes this capture special and quite unique.

Olá Chris, love the travel earth feeling here. The adventure of going to remote places never seen before, the majesty of going through wide open landscapes while being inside a train for 30hours. Wonderful perspective of the train and raillway line.
pierrefonds (66889) 2009-03-29 5:26
The curves of the rail track and of the train are assets to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the hills in the background whixh is giving depth to the photo. The cloudy sky is filtering the light which is enhancing the colors and giving a good contrast to them. Havce a nice day.
