Photographer's Note

Once again, I could not resit the sunset. The sky was so wonderful that I took the camera and started clicking towards the beauty of the reddish colours. Because I do not want to be repetitive, I decided for this minimalist main posting. It is just the derrick against the red clouds and blue sky. However, I am still showing a picture of the entire rig. Please check the WS and let me know your thoughts about the two photos.

PS. From today and for the next 2 weeks I am off to Southern Africa (South Africa, Zambia and Botswana). I will be back with some African sunsets!!!

It looks like somebody sprinkled a red dust in the sky ... spectacular. Weel captured and composed with very good image and color quality. Tfs and have a nice weekend.

Well, I must confess, I'm much impressed by the colours of both shots.
And I'm eager to see your African sunsets.
It's subjective but I'm more inclined yet in favour of the WS version.

Hi Antonio,

I actually like the workshop with the entire rig better! I'm wondering why you have choosen to put part of the rig in this shot. Why not only sky? Or sky with a slight bit of horizon?
The sky is just wonderful, but for me it's either the shot with the entire rig or a shot with only sky in it.

I think you made a major (as far as major can go for this site) mistake in posting the WS as the WS and not as the main photo Antonio. I mean, this one is nice, but the WS photo is so much better in my opinion, or I should say for my taste.

This one is nice but composition wise, I don't like just the top of the derrick poking in here. There's really not enough of it to tell what it is without reading the note and it is sort of just hanging in there. The exposure is also a little dark and has less "pop" than the WS.

As for the WS, perfect exposure resulting in great color. A very dramatic looking photo with a great colorful perfectly timed sky and sunset. I especially like the lighting of the rig and the contrasting yellow against the sky.

So, a bad looking critique for two nice looking photos. There both good - the WS is better though!!!

What I like about sunset is when the sunset or sunrise is not the main subject, but an excuse to present something under a different light, like you are doing right here.
I prefer this post to the other one, I find it more dynamic and impressive with this low point of view.

Deixa-me ver se me explico bem por poucas palavras. Gosto mais do WS porque:
- o céu no WS está tão ou mais espectacular que aqui.
- esta não é assim tão minimalista, vê-se mais de metade da torre; portanto, mais vale a torre toda no WS.
- Não gosto muito desta inclinação; para mostrar o belo céu do pôr-do-sol a torre podia bem estar direita.
- A imagem do WS é mais "informativa", mostra-nos mais coisas, sendo bela ao mesmo tempo.

Com isto tudo, ambas as fotos estão bonitas. Mas já que pediste opinião, aqui está.
Agora venham de lá as imagens do sul do grande continente.

A strong and simple composition Antonio, and the intensity of the colour in the sky is amazing. I think you've struck just the right balance of saturation without going over the top.
I'd have preferred it if you'd avoided including the lights and other bits and bobs in the bottom corner, leaving just the derrick against the sky.
I definitely prefer this one to the WS - it's the simplcity that makes it work so well.

Grande por do sol António. As cores estão fabulosas, mas a inclusão da torre faz com que esta foto não seja apenas mais uma entre muitas. Está muito boa.

Oi Antonio gostei mais desta foto porque esta diferente , tambem não e uma coisa que se vê todos os dias para mim :)
O ceu ficou fabuloso muito bonitos os tons de azul e vermelho , só tinha cortado o foco de luz no canto , parabens!!!

Oi António,
Não vou ficar repetindo o que os outros já disseram, que as duas fotos estão lindas, que as cores estão magníficas... oops, já repeti.
Quero dizer porque gostei mais desta do que da do WS. Nesta principal, você conseguiu uma ótima profundidade, com aparentemente poucos elementos - a inclinação da torre e o POV deram uma excelente perspectiva.
A outra está mais plana.
Além disso, aqui as nuvens parecem estar dando passagem para a torre em direção ao infinito, embora saibamos que o alvo dela sejam as profundezas das entranhas da terra.

Gosto muito do facto que nesta foto, da a impressao que alguma coisa esta saindo de terra, tipo Geyser...
As cores esta muito boas, tal como o posicionamento do derrick na tua composiçao.

Hi Antonio. With a sunset like this who could resist? Great photo. The angle of the derrick gives this shot a great perspective and depth. You have handled the light well to get those great colours and detail on the derrick. Thanks for sharing.

Como em qualquer pôr-do-sol bem fotografado, as cores estão excelentes, mas para além disso, acho que as formas das nuvens combinam muito bem em termos de compo com a torre, tornando a foto algo original e muito "vigorosa".
Fico à espera das da África do Sul. Espero que te divirtas por lá.

I love the way this beautiful tone interacts with the glowing industrial scene.

I am curious as to why you bumped up to an ISO 800 with this with a 1/60 shutter ... just a lack of tripod?

I like the more "mystic" feel of the lights on the tower with this one over the workshop.

Hi Antonio! Very beautiful sunset mixing blue and red. The nature always provides new spectacle, never the same. The clouds have an interesting pattern in the sky. The tower adds also some dynamism to the picture. Very well done!!!

A série madura continua excelente, aqui nos mostrando cores fascinantes sobre uma ponta de torre. Posso até ver você correndo buscar a sua câmera para registrar a beleza do entardecer. A foto publicada é bastante diferente da do workshop. Esta me parece mais artística e a outra é mais um registro. Ambas são fantásticas, cada uma na sua categoria. Espetáculos assim nós não nos cansamos de ver...

Boa estadia por Africa. Realmente es um homem bem viajado que conhece meio mundo e lugares bem interessantes.

Interesting how the critiques are pretty well split down the middle between the two shots. I think this one is more artsy, the other teaches us about the world better. Hi Antonio,

Lovely photo with a great and deep coloured sky, I love it..and you seem to do so too!
The mixture of deep red and dark blue..lovely and good idea to capture this tower within. Fine perspective and okay sharpness.

The photo in the WS is also nice, with interesting light..more blue on the right opposite to the left, also seems somewhat brighter. Nicely captured, I like that version too!

A superb sky, with beautifull red and purple colors. Besides, the rig is well lighted and safely postionned on the side of the image not to disturb the view on the sky.

Olá António, andei a vasculhar na tua galeria e descobri a última que ainda não tinha comentado. Nem sei como é que me falhou porque está linda. Sem dúvida que escolho esta, embora a outra seja uma boa complementar, também muito bonita. Nesta, talvez cortasse um pouco à esquerda para ter a torre a sair mesmo do cantinho. As riscas vermelhonas a sair do outro canto estão uma beleza, com dizem os brazileiros.
