Chongwu Sculpture Park (entry fee 25 yuan) is an unusual sight, right on the beach in southern China. Access is by minibus from Quanzhou, which is a small town north of Xiamen, a large city which faces Taiwan. Shot on a cold, bleak, overcast midwinter's day.
The old city wall & lighthouse can be seen in the distance, on top of the promontory. The city wall was built in 1387 ad to keep out Japanese pirates. The "Ancient" City Stone Park is much more recent (last 10-20 years), although some of the sculptures are fairly old. ACSP stretches along about 2km of coastline with 500 sculptures scattered about on the cliffs & beach.
If enough people show an interest, I will post more tomorrow from this locale. (eg A giant carved fish on the cliff face in the distance.)
This overview gives an idea of scale.

This is a good TE type shot of a bizzare place, and it's got that nice paintily quailty again. Is it me, or is it jsut a bit overexposed?

A nice image for an interesting post.
Maybe could you have cropped in the left to remove the electricity pylon in the background, but that's only a detail.
Excellent note too.
Thank you, Chris !

This is an interesting photo Chris, makes you look more than once and provokes some thought. I like the grainy feel to it (that doesn't always work but here it does) and the muted colours. As always, your Notes are a pleasure to read!

Quite an unlikely sight to run into this array of sculptures by the beach, but certainly a subject that has a high TE value, and one of which you made a good composition. The placement of the objects of art, and the way in which the shoreline meanders towards the city wall in the back are building a good depth in this view. Colors look somewhat muted but I guess it suits the season in which you got to take this. Well done, Chris. Bring on the carved fish ;-)

Interesting record shot. China sure has changed since I was there in 1983.
